Dog Poems

 
Aptly Named... or not?

You were the perfect puppy, Lady.
So sweet and gentle and fuzzy.
You simply could do no wrong, not ever.

Poor Dear,
I wasn't going to take you to the barn was I?
Not with your foot so sore.
Bandaged like it was.

After an hour or so I simply had to check you.
I rushed, I was worried.
I reached the door... relief!
Your smiley face and waggy tail greeted me.
Your shining eyes warmed my heart to the core,
With the I love you's.
My heart melted.

I simply was stunned at the curtains on the floor,
Past that corner past your charms!
How could you chew all of the corners on the chairs?
Those little plastic clips that hold up those drapes are impossible to find, you know.
Every single cushion was on the floor... that took some effort, dear.
And really, that curler on the floor! That was the limit.
Not on the lino, mind, but the carpet. The cream coloured carpet.
In the most prominent of spots.

Lady, lady, lady not so aptly named.
So sure, with you head hung low,
and your eyes peeking up.
"I didn't mean it. Really".
It took me an hour to clean up.
Perfect puppy, poor dear!
You had me really fooled.
I guess it was a relief I laughed,
You brat, you're irresistible. You knew all along.
The smile was playing at the corners of your worried mouth.
I tried my best to growl.
You're lucky god blessed puppies so,
And made you so darn cute!
